CFP: [Gender Studies] Vision, Memory, Spectacle: Australian Women's & Gender Studies Association Conference
Call For Papers
Vision, Memory, Spectacle
The Australian Women’s and Gender Studies Association International Conference
The University of Western Australia
Perth, Australia
9-12 July 2008
Feminism’s reputation for excess and spectacle perseveres in media images
and popular memory, but how do we remember the vision(aries) of earlier
feminisms? How is feminism screened? Is there agency in spectacle? How do
current shifts in visual culture affect gender relations (does feminism
have a SecondLife)? And does it matter, if women are still spectacularly
poor in the global corporation?
Papers are invited on the visual, memory and/or spectacle in their diverse
forms, as well as any topics that further understandings of gender and
sexuality, race and class, historically and in contemporary everyday life.
Send an abstract for a 20 min paper with your name, a 100 word bio, and
contact details, to Dr Alison Bartlett at bartlett_at_arts.uwa.edu.au by Jan
26, 2008.
This conference welcomes everyone interested in contemporary work in
women’s studies, feminist activism and gender research.
