conference.) Listed below are some suggestions for possible presentations,

We invite submissions for a collection of original research on the
subject of Eastern travelers’ encounters with the West. We are
interested in travelers whose responses have been inflected by their
positions as residents of Eastern metropoles, empires, and/or nations; by
Eastern notions of gender, sexuality, race, or ethnicity; and by Eastern
religious or secular worldviews. Authors should feel free to study any
of a wide variety of genres, including expedition reports, letters,
travel web sites, film, news or entertainment programming,
auto/biographies of travelers, travel illustrations and related visual
genres, young adult and children’s literature, encyclopedias, textbooks,

Yale University, in partnership with the Anglo-Saxon Studies Colloquium
(Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, NYU), invites submissions for the fourth
annual graduate student conference sponsored by the Colloquium.

Proposals are now being accepted for the Gender & Technology Area of the
Southwest/Texas Popular & American Cultural Association 2008 Conference.

In addition to individual paper proposals, panel proposals are also
encouraged.

Listed below are some suggestions for possible presentations, but topics
exploring other interesting and varied relationships between gender and
technology are also welcome:

*gender and technology in learning environments

*gender in IT careers

*medical regulation, invention, and augmentation of gender

*gender and science theory (dealing with philosophical questions/aspects,
i.e. Keller, Longino, etc.)

Critical Negotiations in Black British Literature and the Arts

This conference focuses upon local, international and transnational
engagements with Black British literature and the arts â€" in relation to its
production, reception and cultural position. Through the multiple
disciplines of the arts, it creates a meeting point for prominent and
emerging scholars, writers and practitioners in order to explore the impact
of this field, both at home and abroad. The context is one of critical
investigation and celebration; a journey along diasporic and aesthetic routes.
