CONFERENCE ON ENGLISH POETRY 1950-2008, 27-28 JUNE 2008, PARIS SORBONNE-
PARIS IV
This conference will examine the nature, status and voice of poetry within
English culture from the perspective of the public/private dialectic. It
will aim to discern to what extent poetry can claim to make itself heard
beyond the confines of its often tiny readership (with certain
exceptions). Does English poetry have any real social or public dimension
or rôle? And with what authority can it claim to speak if it confines
itself to the albeit fascinating experimentation of a J.H. Prynne? Is
poetry capable of being both a private voice and civic discourse (cf the
“Comparative Blacknessâ€: Black Presences and Representations in the
Americas

Call for Proposals by the Beat Studies Association for a panel on new
scholarship on the Beats at the American Literature Association Annual
Conference to be held in San Francisco, May 22-25, 2007. Proposals are
requested reflecting new research or forthcoming publications on
individual writers or a broader historical/cultural analysis of the Beat
Generation. Send brief proposals (2-3 pages) and a brief professional

Majors: Issues, Tips and Guidelines.
2. “Can You Hear Me Now?â€: Creating Lines of Communication between the
Administrator and the Administrated.
