Mississippi Graduate Student Conference held in conjunction with the Annual
Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conference.
The Graduate Students in the Departments of English and Southern Studies
invite you to submit abstracts exploring Southern culture. Accepted
submissions will be presented in Oxford , Mississippi, July 17th-19th, 2008.

Zemekis, Universal Pictures, 1985; 1989; 1990). I am seeking academic
essays on topics of cultural analysis exploring the intricacies, importance
and endurance of these films, within (but not limited to) the areas listed

We invite abstracts to form a panel on objects and memory for the 2008
Cultural Studies Association conference at New York University in May.
This panel will explore the function of objects, whether private mementos
or public relics, as material representations of past identity.
Possible topics may include the relationship between object memory and
trauma, history, the body or space, as well as the role of material
memory in forensics, the city, domestic identity, warfare, advertising
and museum culture. We welcome proposals from interdisciplinary
perspectives addressing a variety of cultural texts including film,

The past decade has witnessed Roth's canonization as an American classic.
This seminar is dedicated to examining his impact from a comparative
perspective. Panels will engage issues pertaining to Roth in translation
and his reception in other parts of the world; his novels read alongside
international authors (some possible examples: Dostoevsky, Céline, Kundera,
Bernhard, Appelfeld, O’Brien) or vis-à-vis the visual arts (Rembrandt,
Guston, Freud, Kitaj).

Keynote speakers include Elizabeth Prettejohn (Professor of History of
Art, University of Bristol) and Talia Schaffer (Associate Professor of
English, CUNY).

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to examine the nature and
representation of artistic labour within the nineteenth century’s
expanding print and visual culture.
