France and China Conference 2008
Cultural and Educational Perspectives
16-17 June 2008

This two-day conference aims at bringing together local, regional and
international scholars and specialist practitioners from a variety of
fields in order to foster a better understanding of the cultural and
intellectual relations between France and China. While drawing on the
broad array of research fields involved, this conference aims to identify
areas of interest within two interdisciplinary strands that will
encompass the discussions: the cultural and the educational. Emphasis
will however be placed on comparative and contrastive analysis spanning
across the educational and the cultural fields.

Themes and strands
- Cultural strand: The cultural strand investigates issues of cross-
cultural contact, influences and representations in various disciplines
of the humanities and the social sciences. Topics may cover areas such as
current affairs and politics, diaspora, literature, travel history and
travel writing, translation, visual and performing arts, fashion and
popular culture.

- Educational strand: The educational strand focuses on experiences that
reflect trends in teaching and learning of language and culture. Topics
may cover areas such as French studies in local and regional curricula,
methods and applications, innovative approaches in teaching and
assessment, teacher/learner profiles, issues of identity and motivation,
international and reciprocal mobility, career outcomes, employment,
internships.

Call for papers:
We now welcome proposals for paper presentations and posters discussing
research and experiences in relation to any areas that fit within the
themes and strands of the Conference.

Types of sessions:
Individual papers: 30 minutes (20 minutes for the presentation, 10
minutes for questions)
Poster presentations (including a 5 minute oral presentation)
Paper abstracts in English or French should be no more than 350 words and
submitted by : February 29, 2008.
Early submissions are most appreciated.
