The graduate students of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at
the University of California, Los Angeles invite you to submit abstracts
for the Fifth Annual UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese
Graduate Student Conference to be held on Friday May 2nd, 2008.

The conference will explore the theme of travel in its
literal and figurative manifestations including but not limited to:
journey, movement, intersection, displacement, and transition.

We encourage the submission of papers from any related field of
Hispanic and Lusophone Literatures, Linguistics, Women Studies,
Chicano/Latino Studies,
Ethnic/Cultural Studies and/or other arts.

Papers may be presented in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

Abstracts may represent individual or panel submissions. Individual
must not exceed 20 minutes (12 point font/7-8 double spaced pages
maximum), and panels should be limited to one hour with time for the
Q&A portion. Please include in your abstract any audiovisual
technology that you'll need for your presentation (laptop- Mac or PC,
powerpoint, projector, screen, etc).

The email should include the title of the presentation, your name,
institutional affiliation, address, email and phone number. The abstract
should be sent as an attachment, with no personal information other than
the title of the paper and paper proposal. Please submit an
abstract of 250 words by email to, no later
than February 1, 2008.

Submission and acceptance of your paper for presentation implies a
commitment on your part to attend the conference.

Participants will be notified of acceptance via e-mail
by February 15, 2008.
