Call For Papers: “Self and Audience in American Women Poets” (ALA;

The American Literature Association Conference
May 22-25, 2008
San Francisco

Paper proposals are invited on the relationship between self and audience
in any American Women poet/s. Topics might include, but are not limited to:

- Reader-writer relationship/ audience and intersubjectivity
- Social engagement in difficult poetry
- Social or political verses "private" or inward poetry
- Constructions of self for political poetry
- Construction and uses of racial, class and sexual identity
- Responses to the women’s liberation movement (including
non-identification as a woman poet) in writing from 1950’s-1970’s
- Writers of the 1950’s-1970’s writing against and/or within a male lineage
- Poetic friendships with other women poets

Please submit an abstract of 250-300 words to Lisa Sperber at by January 15, 2008.
