The Fiction of Nonfiction

This is a CFP for a proposed panel to be held at (dis)junctions, the 15th
annual humanities conference at University of California Riverside on April
11-12, 2008. Contributors are invited to submit critical works on
literature that examine the often uncomfortably/ unclearly drawn line
between fiction and nonfiction. These papers can examine texts by authors
from a wide range of time periods, genres, and geonational origins.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
        Recall and memory
        The burdens of memoir writing
        Ethical concerns of writing
        Marketing “the truth”
Implications/ effects of the “Based on/ Inspired by a true story/ actual
events” labels

In addition to critical examinations of the above themes, creative works
that consciously blur the binary of fiction/ nonfiction are also encouraged.
Abstracts of 250-300 words should be submitted by email to by the deadline of February 16, 2008 (text in
the body of the message; please no attachments). Please include all contact
information and institution affiliation.
