Call for Papers: Interpreting the Poetry of American Transcendentalism (c.
1800-1860).

---> Date of Publication (March 2009)

---> Deadline for Submissions (14 July 2008)

We welcome twenty essays of interest to those concerned with the study of
the poetry of American Transcendentalism and their representatives.

We are looking particularly for essays on various topics in literary
studies, cultural studies and aesthetic philosophy answering to the
publication's subject matter.

We welcome papers examining this issue of “American Transcendentalism” from
either practical perspectives, or based on foregrounded theoretical
assumptions, as well as papers concerning single authors or comparative
views. We are especially interested in papers taking polemical positions
concerning the relationship between poetic forms and content and
cultural/philosophic thought.

The publication will appear in two volumes; followed by a conference near
Graz, Austria in March 2009.

Articles of fewer than 12,000 words or more than 18,000 words are not
considered for publication. The word count includes notes but excludes
works-cited lists and translations, which should accompany foreign language
quotations.

Each article submitted is send to two reviewers. Articles recommended by
these readers are then sent to the members of the Editorial Board, who meet
in late November 2008 to make final decisions. Until a final decision is
reached, the author's name is not made known to consultant readers and the
Editorial Board. Because the submission of an article simultaneously to
more than one refereed project can result in duplication of the demanding
task of reviewing the manuscript, it is our policy not to review articles
that are under consideration elsewhere.

Submissions, prepared according to the “MLA Style (6th edition)”, should be
sent electronically (MS Word document) to:

Prof. Dr. emer. Dan Rabinowitz
dan.rabinowitz_at_stiftung-albertina.org

Please enclose a brief cv and publication list.

Authors of articles are not paid but will receive 25 offprints free of
charge and a copy of the publication. All contributors will be invited to
speak at the 2009 conference in Austria and are financially supported with
free flight tickets and basic accommodation.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
