The 20th Century panel of the Midwest Popular Culture and Midwest American Culture
Association is now accepting proposals for its upcoming conference.

Subject matter for this year’s panel will be devoted to discussing one of the 20th Century's most
controversial writer, Stephen King. Proposals may address King’s body of written work, or his
various television and film adaptations.

All paper topics on the horror writer are welcome. Ideal paper proposals, however, would center
upon:
 - the mythology of the Dark Tower series
 - controversy surrounding his being awarded the National Book Foundation's Medal for
DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTION TO AMERICAN LETTERS AWARD in 2003
 - King and Kubric’s conflicting visions for The Shining
 - Michael Chabon’s defense of Stephen King’s body of work in the larger debate concerning the
literary value of genre fiction

The MPCA/MACA conference will be held Friday-Sunday, October 3-5, 2008 at
the Hiltonâ€"Netherland Plaza in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

All proposals should be emailed to Michael Yetter, Department of English, Northern Illinois
University at myetter_at_niu.edu.

The deadline for proposals is May 25, 2008.
