CFP: The Future of Knowledge Work; Working Class Studies Association
Conference (Pittsburgh: June 3-6, 2009)

Knowledge work: an ever-growing industry, but an ever-diminishing
workplace. This panel will study, interpret, and propose a variety of
approaches to understanding the future of knowledge work, a term which we
use to encompass not only the traditional university and labor contained
therein, but likewise its severed or attendant parts, including adjunct and
contract labor, student labor, teaching and education inside/outside of
academe, educational service work, etc. What is the state of this sphere of
labor in the United States? How does its present condition
lend us an idea of where this kind of work is headed in the future?

Abstracts should be between 250-500 words, and should be submitted to
Sheila Liming (sliming_at_andrew.cmu.edu) by December 15, 2008. Possible
abstract topics may include, or relate to:

- academic labor
- academic curricula and pedagogy with regards to labor
- policy and legislation with regards to knowledge work
- alternative model of knowledge work
- knowledge work and technology
- organization/unionization in spheres of knowledge work
- communities of workers engaged in knowledge work
