CFP: [African-American] Celebrating African American Literature: The Novel Since 1988
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 5, 2009
We invite paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on theoretical,
critical, or pedagogical approaches to works produced since 1988.
Proposals focusing on satire, transnationalism, cosmopolitanism, or any
of the topics listed below are also welcomed.
Aesthetic Frameworks or Models
Literature and American Legal Discourse
[Re]constructions of Race and/or Gender
Revisioning Oral Traditions
Revisioning Signifying Practice
Urban Experience Novels
We are especially interested in proposals that address the work of
featured novelists Alice Randall, Mat Johnson, and Martha Southgate.
[Other confirmed speakers and participants include Houston Baker, Jr.,
Maryemma Graham, and Michael Berube.] Selected essays will once again be
edited for publication. The previous conference collection is titled NEW
ESSAYS ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN NOVEL: FROM HURSTON AND ELLISON TO
MORRISON AND WHITEHEAD.

for submission is February 5, 2009. During March 2009 you will receive e-
mail notification regarding abstract acceptance. Important note: Persons
