CFP: Humor & Horror/SF/Fantasy - Detroit, MI, 10.30-11.1.09
Dear Humor / Horror, SF, Fantasy Scholar:
You are invited to submit a paper to the Midwest Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association annual meetings being held at the Book Cadillac Westin Hotel, Detroit, Michigan, from Friday through Sunday, October 30-November 1, 2009.
More details about the conference, the hotel and its rates can be found at the MPCA / MACA website.
The official deadline for submission is April 30, though I will accept submissions up till May 11, 2009 ... if they're really good. Accepted panelists will be notified no later than May 15. If these deadlines are simply too tight and you truly need only a little more time, let me know in advance about a suitable date for you and I will inform you if it is feasible for me.
Authors of accepted submissions must register with the MPCA / MACA before September 15, 2008 to avoid the late fee. All registration forms and details are here:
If you absolutely cannot attend the entire conference and need your presentation scheduled on a specific day, you must let me know when you submit your proposal. If you wish your presentation to be listed as Midwest American Culture Association (rather than Midwest Popular Culture Association), please include this request with your proposal.
Want more information on the Humor and Horror / Science Fiction / Fantasy panels? Please just send an email to jdowell@msu.edu.
Please remember: nothing good is off-limits. That should be obvious. Into Chuck Palahniuk? Bring his brains in a skillet. Got the goods on Christopher Moore? Tell us what we don't already know. A scholarly fan of Watchmen or Let the Right One In? Show us what you've got. Think Poppy Z Brite is actually writing comedy? Prove it. What about Vonnegut or HS Thompson or
Twain or Carlin? What can an Americanist perspective gain from the mad genius of Alan Moore or Florence Foresti or Peter Jackson or Aldous Huxley or Ricky Gervais? Beyond the obvious, that is.
Best regards,
John A Dowell
