MAY 13-22, 2010, Wayne State University, Detroit

As a sequel to the 2009 summer academy in Munich,"American Studies in a Transnational Perspective: Cultural Mobility and Intercultural Exchange," this year's ten-day seminar in transnational American Studies will take place at Wayne State University (WSU), Detroit. The academy will provide in-depth attention to Dissertation and Habilitation projects by doctoral students and junior faculty, and will present a series of keynote lectures in American Studies by speakers from WSU, other American universities, and German universities. Detroit and associated topics such as Fordism, social modernity, African-American culture, social space, and cross-regional exchanges will provide an important focus for the program, which will also feature excursions to culturally significant sites in the Detroit area.
