Papers on any of the works of William Shakespeare are invited for presentation at the eighteenth annual California State University Shakespeare Symposium, to be held on the campus of California State University at Fullerton, on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8, 2010. Submissions are particularly encouraged from current and former faculty, instructors, and students of any California State University campus. Papers must be no longer than 20 minutes of reading time and are to be submitted, via e-mail attachment (in MSWord or Word-compatible, please), to Symposium Co-ordinator Prof. Kay Stanton, at kstanton@fullerton.edu. The deadline for submissions will be Monday, April 19, 2010. Registration cost will be $15 in advance, or $20 on site, which will include, as the Symposium luncheon, a Shakespeare Tea, hosted by the As You Like Shakespeare Society. The date of the Symposium has been set to coincide with the last performance dates of CSU Fullerton's production of Romeo and Juliet, and, schedule permitting, the director and/or some of the actors may be able to address our Symposium. There will be performances at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8, as well as a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, May 8. Ticket prices are $9-$10, and we hope that many Symposium participants and attendees will attend one of the performances. The Symposium will also feature a presentation by Guest Speaker Louise Sorel, acclaimed actress of stage, screen, and television.

Guest Speaker: Louise Sorel
Born into the movie industry, to actress Jeanne Sorel and producer Albert J. Cohen, Louise Sorel began her career on stage in her teens, and she was soon performing on Broadway. She has also starred in many feature films and numerous television shows, including Star Trek, The Incredible Hulk, Magnum P. I., Charlie's Angels, Knots Landing, and Law and Order. She is perhaps most widely known for her work in daytime drama, for her memorable role as Augusta Lockridge on Santa Barbara and especially her current role as multifaceted Vivian Alamaine on Days of Our Lives, for which she has won five Soap Opera Digest Awards. On stage Louise Sorel has played the following Shakespearean roles: Luciana in The Comedy of Errors, Katharine in The Taming of the Shrew, Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, Olivia in Twelfth Night, Lady Anne in Richard III, Ophelia in Hamlet, Gertrude in Hamlet, and Goneril in King Lear.
