Call for papers
On the occasion of the tenth edition of the FESTIVAL PAGANINIANO of Carro the SOCIETA' DEI CONCERTI of La Spezia (Liguria, Italy) and the CENTRO STUDI OPERA OMNIA LUIGI BOCCHERINI of Lucca (http://www.luigiboccherini.org), in association with PALAZZETTO BRU ZANE-CENTRE DE MUSIQUE ROMANTIQUE FRANÇAISE of Venice (http://www.bru-zane.com) and MUSICALWORDS.IT, are pleased to invite submissions from scholars of proposals for the symposium on "Orchestral Conducting in the Nineteenth Century", to be held in La Spezia, CAMeC, from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 July 2011.
The programme committee encourages submissions within the following areas, although other topics are welcome:
* Orchestral Conducting in the Nineteenth Century: Historical and Sociological Aspects
* Techniques, Orchestral Disposition, Treatises
* Virtuoso-Conductors (i.e. Clementi, Paganini, Liszt, Spohr, etc.)
* Opera Performances and Orchestral/Singing Conducting
* Great Conductor-Composers (Berlioz, Charpentier, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Spohr, von Weber, and others)
* The Relationship between Composers and Conductors (i.e. Wagner vs Bülow)
* Conducting and Musical Interpretation

The official languages of the conference are English, French and Italian. Papers selected at the conference will be published in a miscellaneous volume.
Papers are limited to twenty minutes in length, allowing time for questions and discussion. Please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words and one page of biography. All proposals should be submitted by email no later than Thursday 31 March 2011 to Dr. Roberto Illiano . With your proposal please include your name, contact details (postal address, e-mail and telephone number) and (if applicable) your affiliation.
The committee will make its final decision on the abstracts by the 15th of April 2011, and contributors will be informed immediately thereafter.
Further information about the programme, registration, travel and accommodation will be announced by the end of April 2011.
