Session organizer seeking 250-300 word abstracts and short biographies (100 to 150 words) of relevant scholarship for a proposed special session at MLA 2012, Seattle WA.

This proposed panel will consist of three 20 min papers (8 pages double spaced) or four 15 minute (6 pages double spaced) papers. Successful abstracts will explore the ways in which the virtual spaces of the Matrix series and of Inception are critiques of both "perfect space" and "reality" and the cost of living in virtual spaces as well as its advantages. Theoretical approaches and readings are encouraged and mere close readings of the films in question are discouraged.

Deadline for submission of abstracts and bio: 1 March 2011, by e-mail to the session organizer (, pdf format preferred. Submitting an abstract and bio means that you must be a member of the MLA by April 1, 2012 and that you will attend MLA Seattle, 5–8 January 2012 if the panel is accepted. (Non-members will be removed from the panel by MLA staff on April 7, 2010).

The panel with titles, contact information of speakers, abstracts and bios will then be submitted for further review by the MLA program committee; MLA is a highly prestigious and therefore highly competitive conference.

See for last year's successful submission.
