Mapping Pre-1965 South Asian America, MLA, Boston 2013

Relatively little is known about the early history of South Asian immigrants to North America prior to 1965. This special session organized on behalf of the South Asian Literatures and languages Discussion group at the MLA invites abstracts for papers exploring topics such as literary representations of the experience of South Asians in this period, theoretical analyses of early migration and settlements, community building measures against discrimination and anti-immigration laws, negative representations in newspapers
