CFP for PAMLA 2012 Conference, "Migration, Immigration, and Movement" (Seattle, 10/19-21); Special Session in American Literature/Film

"Writers in Hollywood: The Migration to Screenplay"
In the 20th century, writers such as Raymond Chandler, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dorothy Parker, and Nathanael West went to Hollywood, where, as Chandler later put it, "little of worth their talent is allowed to achieve". This session invites papers that explore that movement in genres, especially from a narratological perspective, as writers successful in the novel, short story, essay, poem, etc. migrated to the screenplay. Papers that more broadly examine how established writers negotiated the creative culture of Hollywood are also welcome.
