49th International Congress on Medieval Studies
Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, May 8-11, 2014.

The International Society for the Study of Medievalism is sponsoring two sessions at next year's Kalamazoo Medieval Congress:

I) Medievalism
We welcome papers on medievalism (the post-medieval use of the Middle Ages) in any time period and within any genre.

II) Round Table: Medievalism and the Academy Today
Despite the enduring trend of medievalism in popular culture, scholars of medievalism often find themselves marginalized among both traditional medievalists and departmental peers. This round table is intended as a conversation about the current state of medievalism as an academic discipline and its potential future, especially in light of continuing discussions about maintaining disciplinary relevance in the humanities. Short (10 minute) contributions to this discussion are welcome.

Please follow the Medieval Institute's rules governing participation and submission of abstracts. Abstracts of no more than 300 words together with the Participant Information Form should be sent before September 15, 2013 to Amy S. Kaufman at
