This panel interrogates the impact of the Scottish poet Robert Burns on nineteenth-century writers around the globe. How did his efforts in developing a poetry that deals with freedom and nationalism inspire later authors? How was his poetics of national identity transported beyond Scottish borders to influence how writers across a variety of nations articulate national identity?
