Postcolonial studies emerged as an academic discipline in the 1980s as figures like Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak, and Homi Bhabha adapted post-structural theory by Foucault, Derrida, and Lacan to examinations of the non-European world. But since the early 1990s, there has been a move towards more materialist approaches in postcolonial studies, including Marxist critiques of the field as well as increased interest in archival research and book history.

What is considered Gothic and how we define it continues to evolve. Proposals for individual or collaborative papers are invited on the idea of the Gothic in comics, graphic novels and popular culture. Proposals from diverse theoretical perspectives ranging across different genres and mediums (fiction, film, comics, graphic novels, etc.) are especially welcome. Possible topics might include (but are not limited to):
• visuals and early Gothic chapbooks
• Gothic comics and graphic novels
• commercialization and adaptation of the Gothic

American Fiction (the main publication of the American Fiction Association of Korea) welcomes essays which examines all areas of American literature. American Fiction is published three times a year: February 28, July 31, and November 30 and accepts manuscripts written in English and in Korean. Submissions to American Fiction are accepted throughout the year, but the following deadlines apply:

February edition: December 31
July edition: May 30
November edition: September 30

Feminist Studies in English Literature welcomes essays on the study of literature that incorporate feminist perspectives. The journal does not limit its scope to English literature or to literary studies. It encourages articles on literatures of various nations and on feminist theories and criticisms. Book reviews are also welcome.

FSEL is published three times a year: April 30, October 31, and December 31. The April and December editions are published in English and the October edition is published in Korean. Submissions to FSEL are accepted throughout the year, but the following deadlines apply:

April edition: January 31
September edition: July 31
December edition: September 30

A proposed collection of critical articles needs additional contributions. The anthology focuses on Sri Lankan Literature written in English. All literary genres will be covered. Background studies of current socio-political developments will be accepted if they demonstrate substantial relevance to the focus of the anthology. Submissions should run to less than 6000 words, follow the MLA style sheet, and must be accompanied by 300-word abstract, a brief cv, and a hard copy mailed at the address indicated.

Papers are invited for a conference on Michel Foucault's Lectures on the Will to Know: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1970-1971, to be held November 8-9, 2013, in New York City. Presented by the Foucault Society and the Stony Brook University Department of Philosophy, the conference will feature a keynote by Todd May (Clemson University). Eduardo Mendieta (Stony Brook) will be a guest speaker.

As the first of Foucault's annual courses, Lectures on the Will to Know set an agenda for his intellectual journey of the 1970s and 1980s. Its publication in English translation (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) opens up new directions for research into power, knowledge and the "formation of discourses."
