Disability in American Literature

This panel invites papers that examine identity politics in American literature from the following theoretical perspectives: disability as a form of diversity, human variation, and/or otherness; the complex embodiment theory; intersectionality; ideology of able-bodiedness. Accepted papers would engage with the following questions: What intersections can be located between the following theoretical fields: ecotheory and disability theory; environmental justice and disability theory; social justice and disability theory? How do the enforced systems of exclusion and oppression shape disability identity? How does disability correspond to race, class, sexuality, gender, and class as a marker of identity? How are disability studies related to minority studies? How does the inclusion of disability revise the theory of minority identity?
