Individual paper and panel proposals related to Food and Culture are now being accepted for the 36th annual Southwest Popular/American Culture Association to be held in Albuquerque, NM. Presentations that connect to the conference theme "Many Faces, Many Voices: Intersecting Borders in Popular and American Culture" are especially encouraged, as are papers and panels that explore other topics connected to food, eating, and cooking in literature, film, and other popular and American culture.

Scholars, graduate students, teachers, foodies, and others interested in the intersection of
culinary production/consumption and culture are encouraged to participate.

Graduate student presenters are eligible for travel fellowships and award opportunities
for best papers. Find a list of graduate student awards here:
Recent graduate student Food and Culture presenters have received the Lawrence Clayton Award for Texas Culture, the Diana Cox Award for Images of Women, and the Peter C. Rollins Award for Popular Culture Issue.

Please send abstracts of 250-300 words directly to the online submission database at by November 1, 2014.

If you plan to propose a panel or roundtable session of three to four presenters, make sure to submit an abstract and title for each participant individually into the database. Each roundtable or panel abstract should also include the panel title and the name of the panel chair.
