Deferrals and Disciplines

This series will address and assess the transformations in the concept of the "human" across the human sciences over the past half-century. The approach adopted is to single out two concepts that can align disparate inquiries, from the post- structuralist critiques of humanism dating back to the 1960s, to more recent studies, driven by both speculation and controlled laboratory experimentation into human cognition. These two concepts are "deferral" and "discipline." Each concept directs us toward a range of issues, intellectual and ethical, and the possible relations between the two concepts suggest further lines of inquiry.

While musical biography has recently received scholarly attention through an array of insightful research, the sheer breadth of possibilities for the study of biography (and biographies) in relation to music means that the broad field remains rich in untapped investigative potential. This conference will provide a forum for consolidated critical discussion on both the content of musical biography (national trends and ideologies; myths and mythology) and its form (narrative technique and meaning). It will aim to open up interdisciplinary avenues of enquiry across a wide range of subjects and time periods, in the domains of classical music, popular music, and ethnomusicology alike.

The ostensible goal of this critical gesture is to democratize our listening habits by loosening the term "music" from definitions of taste and value such that anything could be considered music to our ears. Entrepreneurship education has exhibited a remarkable growing phase during the last decade as the majority of worldwide educational policies prioritize it. Nonetheless, the emerging educational research in the field appears with low impact amongst the rest entrepreneurial subjects. Entrepreneurship education faces difficulties due to its fragmented content and eclectic approaches. Since the birth of nation-states, emerging in conjunction with the first wave of globalisation and the height of European colonialism in the mid-nineteenth century, avant-gardists have problematized the role of the nation-state. However, as anti-colonial freedom movements often assumed a nationalist character, postcolonial studies has been preoccupied with understanding the historical significance and emotional force of the nation-state and devoted less attention to the movements and ideas that sought to subvert the state altogether.
