Transgender Studies, Ecology, and the Environmental Humanities Panel at MLA 2016, January 7-10

For this panel, organized by the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment, we invite proposals for papers that place transgender studies and the environmental humanities into critical conversation, thus attending to existing gaps in scholarship when it comes to the relationships among "trans(gender)," "ecology," and "environment." For example, while materialist ecocriticism has shown concern for trans phenomena, such as the "trans-corporeality" discussed by Stacy Alaimo, that work has tended to reject the linguistic and discursive turns that have been so important to transgender scholarship and activism.

Successful panelists will present short critical papers (20 mins; 6 double spaced pages single sided; this is a firm limit) that discuss C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia as a whole on the 60th anniversary of the completion of its first complete publication (1950-1956).

The Long Beach Indie International Film Festival (www.longbeachindie.com) is looking for scholars, filmmakers, archivists, musicians, journalists, and digital media producers to bring their art, intellect, and energy to our 2015 Film, Media, and Music Conference.

We invite individual papers and full panels representing any topic (e.g. theory, production, history, criticism, preservation, etc.) related to film, television, music, mass communication, and/or digital media.

Individual paper proposals should include a maximum 200-word abstract plus the professional credentials/affiliations of the author/presenter.

Forty-one years after the publication of Julia Kristeva's landmark theoretical intervention in modernist studies, _La révolution du langage poétique_, this panel proposes, following the conference theme, "Modernism and Revolution," to reconsider the relationship of poetry to revolution, whether considered in terms of what happens within the language, the text's revolutionary effects, or its commitment to a wider revolutionary agenda. Does poetry promise what Arthur Rimbaud heralds as "étonnantes révolutions de l'amour" ["amazing revolutions of love"], or should it, acquiescing to W.H. Auden's dictum, concede that indeed it "makes nothing happen" and humble itself, surviving only as "[a] way of happening, a mouth"?

As much of Morley's work was published late in life or posthumously, contributors need not limit themselves to the years she was at BMC and should feel free to draw upon her entire life and oeuvre.
