The panel expands the discursive space where disability matters in poetic studies. While disability studies has been present as an active force in literary studies for decades, there is still much discussion concerning the category of "disability poetics." Many people argue that it is an activist movement, while others believe it as an aesthetic and/or a position around embodiment.

It's time to submit proposals for the Tarot and Other Methods of Divination area at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association (PCA/ACA) conference in Seattle March 21-25 (Monday through Friday), 2016. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to,

a) any aspect of the traditional or innovative uses of Tarot, astrology, cartomancy, I Ching, numerology, runes, tarot, tasseomancy, etc., such as counseling, fortune-telling, and gaming, etc.

b) the history and analysis of any of these practices, including relevant individuals, organizations, objects, texts, etc.

c) the history and analysis of representations of any of these practices in comics, drama, film, graphic novels, literature, television, etc.

Philip K. Dick's Short Fiction (Panel) - Hartford, Connecticut, March 17-20, 2016

In an unpublished forward to The Preserving Machine, Philip K. Dick lamented that "As a writer builds up a novel-length piece it slowly begins to imprison him, to take away his freedom." Dick, who has published five volumes of short fiction, argued that short-story writing allows for freedom, crisis, and action, in contrast to the stultifying process of novel writing. "It is in SF stories," he claimed, "that SF action occurs."

Call for Monographs 2015: Book Series on East‐West Cultural Encounters in Literature & Cultural Studies

This Series seeks scholarly works on intercultural encounters in literature, particularly East‐West precolonial, colonial, or postcolonial contacts that expose, problematize, or re‐create the sense of locality, historicity, and subjectivity. The Series especially welcomes monographs written in English or other languages translated into English. Conference volumes or edited volumes by multiple authors will not be considered at this time. Volumes of essays with a thematic focus written by a single author, however, are welcome. We also encourage the submission of revised doctoral dissertations which employ innovative concepts related to our topics. Suggested topics include but are not limited to the following:
