Coventry University is running a small, one-day working symposium next month in London on the subject of dance and literature. It will include short talks, activities and networking. Dr Brandon Shaw (University of Malta) and Professor Susan Jones (University of Oxford) will both present work from their research into the relationship between movement and text. CLA Call for Paper--Proposed Panel

The 76th Annual CLA Convention will be hosted by Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, April 6-9, 2016. The Conference theme is "Dialogues between Africa and African Diaspora in Languages, Literatures and Films."

Postcolonial literary study has been declared dead or "exhausted" in some quarters, but it may have metamorphosed in environmental humanities concerned with the Anthropocene and in theories of world literature. This seminar explores how these fields speak to one another and pursue new conceptual and aesthetic schemas.

H. G. Wells was a novelist, social commentator and utopianist, and is regarded as one of the fathers of science fiction. His early scientific romances featured time travel, mad scientists, alien invasion, space travel, invisibility, utopia, future war and histories of the future: his mappings of the shape of things to come was an overture to over a century of science fiction.

Sound has always been a method of understanding the world around us, and literature of various forms and time periods has attempted to capture such soundscapes. This panel hopes to explore sound in text in greater detail, raising questions of structure, as well as nationality, individuality, culture, and memory within the American literary realm and American history more broadly. The category "soundscape" could include music, narrative explorations of sound, sonic landscapes, and dialogue, among others, and papers might discuss technical or structural renderings of sound, symbolic usages of sound, or sound as a contributor to other theoretical concepts.
