How and where do Francophone voices speak? Where are they silent? How do linguistic and cultural expressions define what is French and what is Francophone? Are these two terms simultaneously inclusive and exclusive of one another and of other selves, places and languages that they encounter? This NeMLA panel hopes to explore the relationship between identity and voice in digital media (web, social platforms, e-books, audio, video, etc.) in French-speaking spaces that cross national, linguistic and/or cultural borders either intentionally or implicitly. Does digital media offer ways to investigate Francophone identities not available in other forms? How is digital media used to enhance, limit, change, illuminate, highlight, demonstrate or silence Francophone voices? Papers (in either French or English) from a variety of backgrounds that address French and Francophone voices in a digital context are welcome. Possible themes may include, but are not limited to: postcolonial theory, globalization studies, sexuality and gender studies, translation theory, (cultural/linguistic) imperialism and influence, (in)equal forms of exchange/transfer, genre studies, etc. Please submit a 300 word abstract direclty through the NeMLA panel site: http://www.cfplist.com/nemla/Home/S/15912
