Hosted by the graduate program in History & Culture at Drew, the Fourth Annual Dean Hopper New Scholars Conference provides an opportunity for current graduate students and early career scholars to present their work in an academic setting.
We are preparing to launch a brand new postmodern omnifem publication: Rag Queen Periodical. We are seeking submissions in POETRY AND PROSE.
Écriture féminine. This term is what we had in mind when establishing Rag Queen. We want to feature writing about the embodiment of womanhood, regardless of how that's manifested in your life.
We are interested in deviating from neoliberal, corporate feminism and instead focusing on subverting the erasure of female agency and identity. Nuance, intersectionality, and evocative storytelling are our signposts.
Drawing from varied womynfluences, we set sail on a spring tide into, as Betty Friedan would say, "Woman: The Fourth Dimension."
The IJHCS invites original, unpublished, quality research articles/case studies in the fields of humanities, English language, French language and cultural studies for the October-December 2015 Issue. Manuscripts Submission Deadline: November 20, 2015. Issue Publication Date: December 2015. "Polish Journal for American Studies" is a yearbook of the Polish Association for American Studies, published with the support of the University of Warsaw. PJAS publishes scholarly work in such fields of American studies as literature, culture, the arts, the media, history, politics, social sciences and others. The articles should be 5000 to 9000 words in length and follow the MLA format for citations. PJAS is a print journal with an immediate electronic release on its website. Ethos: A Digital Review of the Arts, Humanities, and Public Ethics—a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary online journal and digital forum—invites submissions for its April 2016 issue. For this issue of the Ethos journal, we invite submissions of original scholarly work that consider topics relevant to the project's intellectual interests in the arts, humanities, and public ethics. Articles may explore literary texts, film, music, trends in cultural criticism and "theory," or issues of wider social and political concern. This panel welcomes submissions on theorizing Irish-hyphenate (Irish-Canadian, Irish-American, Irish-Caribbean, etc.) literary and cultural studies. Given the conference theme of "The Worlding of Irish Studies" this panel will consider how "non-Irish" national boundaries and national literary histories complicate in practical and theoretical ways Irish-hyphenate studies. How do the critical discourses and methodological assumptions of disciplines within the "non-Irish" part of the hyphenate inflect and shape literary and cultural studies of Irish-hyphenate texts? More broadly, what is the relationship between Irish Studies and, for example, Irish American studies or Irish Canadian studies?
This is a call for a proposed panel for the for the 27th annual American Literature Association conference.
Sarah Piatt at 180 and Palace - Burner at 15: the View from 2016
2016 will mark the 180th anniversary of Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt's birth and the 15th anniversary of the groundbreaking publication of Paula Bernat Bennett's Palace - Burner, the first modern anthology of the poet's work. Since her mid-nineteenth-century arrival on America's literary scene, Sarah Piatt has been recognized for her "womanly" subject matter and ethos, and the "feminine" quality of her poetry has been aptly characterized by nineteenth-century British author Alice Meynell "not as a grace, but as a force."
