Filmmaker's theory (call for book chapters)

Filmmaker's reflection about their own artworks or about cinema has been constant in the history of the cinematographic art. This book seeks to highlight those reflections bringing them to the center of cinema's theory, that is, filmmaker's concepts and thematics as the support to bring out new or revisited cinema theories. To this end, we propose to extend the concept of the "filmmaker" to cover not only the director, but everyone involved in the filmmaking process with original and stimulating reflections on cinema. Furthermore, we expect book chapters to find bibliographic support in the films themselves, interviews, statements or any written text by the filmmakers; any other bibliography should be residual and secondary.

Proposals are being solicited for a panel to be proposed for the American Literature Association Conference in San Francisco, CA, May 26-29, 2016, on the topic of "Pynchon and Music." Music and musicians have figured importantly in Thomas Pynchon's fiction; songs, often silly but sometimes not, have punctuated them; allusions to music in many genres, including the imaginary, abound. This panel invites investigations into the roles music plays in Pynchon's fiction and of the ways in which the fiction reflects on music.

Arabic and its Alternatives: Religious minorities and their languages in the emerging nation states of the Middle East

Scholars, academics, experts, and especially PhD students from around the world working on the relationship between nationalism and language in the Middle East are invited to submit research abstracts of papers to be presented at the conference, entitled "Arabic and its Alternatives: Religious minorities and their languages in the emerging nation states of the Middle East (1920-1950)."
The conference committee is searching for two additional speakers to present a paper that addresses the theme of the conference. In order to ensure thorough discussion of the papers, we require draft papers a few weeks before the conference (May 30, 2016). Travel and accommodation will be provided for by the conference organizers.
