International Conference: Borders/Boundaries and Religious Otherness: Religion in Travel Writings

updated:
Saturday, April 9, 2016 - 11:59am
University Grenoble Alpes and University Savoie Mont Blanc (France)

This multidisciplinary conference aims to build bridges across disciplines such as history, civilizational studies, literature, and anthropology—among other fields—that rarely cooperate in academia. We also aim to address a diachronic time frame covering the 16th to the 20th centuries. The historiographic tradition equates the journey to a change of scenery and an experience of Otherness.

Edited Collection: Princess Mononoke (Bloomsbury)

Rayna Denison, University of East Anglia

I am seeking contributions of between 5-6,000words on Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime), for an edited collection intended to form part of Bloomsbury's Animation: Key Films series. Princess Mononoke sits at a nexus point in Studio Ghibli's industrial history: it was the first film released in the USA through the Tokuma-Buena Vista International deal; it contained early experiments in mixing Studio Ghibli's much-lauded hand-drawn animation with CG-animated sequences; it broke box-office records in Japan; and, it cemented Hayao Miyazaki's global status as a "master" of animation aesthetics.
