Writing Nicosia… beyond barriers: An anthology
How do we imagine Nicosia beyond barriers – either physical, social or mental? Can we imagine Nicosia beyond barriers? Can Nicosia – as a site that is at once shared, divided and contested – invite and inspire us to write it, to be creative because of and about it?
We invite contributions from writers of fiction and non-fiction, poets, playwrights and cross-genre writers writing in English for the forthcoming anthology Writing Nicosia… beyond barriers.
The Writing Nicosia… beyond barriers anthology draws on a series of walking/writing workshops carried out in autumn 2014 as part of the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre’s (NiMAC) Treasure Island series of events. Literary Agency Cyprus (LAC) workshop leaders and members of the public walked around the city, listened to it, watched it as it awoke and went to sleep, smelled it, felt it and wrote about it. The results of that effort were presented in two public readings, held at NiMAC and Rüstem Bookshop in late 2014.
In October 2015, LAC members were awarded a Stelios Foundation Bi-Communal Award to produce an anthology based on the Writing Nicosia… beyond barriers project.
Prose contributions should be up to 3000 words; poems should not exceed 40 lines. Please indicate whether your piece has already appeared elsewhere.
