Essays are being solicited for a collection of under twenty page pieces (including reference and notes in Chicago style) concerning the aspects and modes by which Hong Kong indigenizes—or appropriates and integrates—the “world” into its local “everyday.” Particular instructive examples of this “making the other local” include, for instance,

 

(a) adopting once-foreign languages as Hong Kong ones (Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, formerly foreign, are official languages, while Tagalog, Bisaya, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi, Urdu, and Nepalese are among other languages common within distinct Hong Kong communities);

(b) incorporating foreign food into local Cantonese cuisine (pasta, sausages, corn);
