Sponsored by the International Shaw Society, The Shaw Festival, and York University, "Shaw at The Shaw" seeks paper proposals that will cover a broad spectrum of topics but will give some preference to topics on the two Shaw plays scheduled at The Shaw Festival, SAINT JOAN and ANDROCLES AND THE LION, and on comparisons of Shaw to other playwrights and of Shaw's plays to other plays featured in the 2017 Festival season (see www.shawfest.com). We are issuing a Call for Proposals for scholarly and creative submissions for the 15th Annual Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference entitled “Words Matter: Politics, Rhetoric, and Social Justice,” hosted by the English Department at Indiana University Bloomington, March 24-25, 2017.
This conference aims to interrogate politics, rhetoric, and social justice in moments of national and international upheaval. We aim to address these terms individually, but also their entanglements across historical moments and geographical locations.

The Doctoral Adam Galos Circle for the History of the 19th and the 20th Centuries invites PhD students and early career scholars to participate in the international conference titled City and the Process of Transition – from Early Modern Times to the Presentto be held at the Historical Institute of the University of Wroclaw, June 8th – 10th 2017. The intention of the organizers is to challenge questions concerning the behavior of the city dwellers who faced the lack of stability, resulted primarily from the progressive urbanization and globalization since the early modern era.

Paper Topics
This year’s theme is “Liminalities: Metamorphosis and Chaos.” The conference will examine the transitional nature of in-between spaces and identities. We invite submissions exploring “Liminalities” in all or any of its meanings. Topics are not limited to, but could include: borders and transnationalisms, marginality, ambiguity and unpredictability, entanglements, thresholds, transformations or reformulations in identity, migration and movement. Areas of inquiry might include the fields of literature, linguistics, composition, rhetoric, creative writing, cultural studies, critical theory, philosophy, history, film, gender studies, and the natural and social sciences.
What are the conditions in which performance happen or is made, in the wake of or in response to a disaster? But we can be more expansive and ask how performance can be linked to disaster, if performance perchance may be thought in the terms of a disastrous event, how such thinking takes on board the implications of linking these two terms: disaster and performance and what possibilities are opened for a politics and ethics of performance.
