CALL FOR PAPERS

AMERICAN LITERATURE ASSOCIATION

May 25-28, 2017

Westin Copley Place, Boston, Mass.

The James Purdy Society invites proposals for papers to be presented at a session sponsored by the society at the American Literature Association 28th Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, May 25 to May 28.

The planned topic is “The Politics of James Purdy.” This can refer to the work and/or the man and his milieu. The definition of the political is understood very broadly. Arguably, Purdy’s very choice of subject matter was often political. Papers might consider national narratives, satire, Cold War context, sexual politics, Midwestern origins, and Purdy’s circle of friends and supporters and their political views.

Please send a 250-word abstract for a 15-20 minute presentation, along with a brief CV, to Michael Snyder (msnyder@occc.edu) or Dennis Moore (clayboy56@gmail.com) by January 20, 2017. Please include in the body of your message a brief biographical sketch, your preferred e-mail address, and any AV equipment needs.
