deadline for submissions:

We are seeking to form a panel of researchers who study memes – meme makers, meme culture, meme formats, meme sites, etc. Our aim is to create a conversation about the possibilities and consequences of meme culture. Analyses related to the following are particularly relevant to the work of the coordinators and would likely best fit with the theme of possibility and consequence: feminist media studies, social media, affective/emotional labor, politics, trolling, and subcultures. However, proposals on additional, related topics are welcome. If interested in participating, please e-mail a 250-word abstract to Bree or Caroline by Thursday, January 12, 2017.

What has been the role of the nation in shaping cultural identities? What is the current place of the nation in a globalized world? Are nations defined by geographical boundaries? What is the role of literature as it intersects with these matters throughout history?
