CALL FOR MEDIA REVIEWERS and PAPERS – MIDDLE WEST REVIEW
Middle West Review is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal that examines the American Midwest and is published by the University of Nebraska Press. MWR is seeking scholars to review media texts that engage with midwestern identity. From popular films and television series to online exhibitions and digital archives, MWR spotlights Midwest-oriented media texts in each issue. If you are interested in reviewing a text from our list below, then please contact the MWR media review editor. We also welcome proposals for reviews of media texts that are not currently on the list.

Call for Papers
The impact of aviation on the 20th and 21st centuries on both time and space has been enormous. From the first adventurers and explorers, through the first legacy companies, the jet age, and now the low cost operators, aviation has tremendously changed concepts of time and space, which in turn has impacted on commerce, security and culture.
On the 200th anniversary of what remains one of the most remarkable launches in British periodical history, scholars of Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine, British literary periodicals, and Scottish politics and culture will gather in Edinburgh for two days of debate about the magazine’s highs and lows, its wide cultural impact, and its enduring legacies in literary history.
The quint’s thirty fourth issue is issuing a call for theoretically informed and historically grounded submissions of scholarly interest—as well as creative writing, original art, interviews, and reviews of books. The deadline for this call is 15th February 2017—but please note that we accept manu/digi-scripts at any time.
All contributions accompanied by a short biography will be forwarded to a member of the editorial board. Manuscripts must not be previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere while being reviewed by the quint’s editors or outside readers.
This panel invites papers on representations of social transformation in the Marvel Universe to be presented at South Central MLA’s 2017 annual convention held October 5-8th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Presenters should feel free to propose papers on a wide-range of topics. We are especially interested, however, in papers that explore the representation of trauma and/or violence as a necessary part of socially transformative practices. Proposed papers could consider, for instance, the trauma of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s terrigenesis or how Luke Cage’s body—often riddled with bullets—offers a challenge to the “All Lives Matter” movement.

The upcoming issue of Parlour will concentrate on food and consumption culture with an emphasis on the displeasing aspects of appetites: hunger, starvation, gluttony, and pica to name a few. We invite submissions that explore a wide range of approaches to the issue’s theme and the various ways consumption or depravation becomes a “haunting” and “horrible” aspect of humanity.
