We are soliciting chapter proposals for a volume tentatively entitled The Casino Games and Classic Card Games Reader: Communities, Cultures, and Play. This volume would be the first in a new series under consideration at Bloomsbury Academic entitled Play Beyond the Computer.
Series Description
In order to encourage the next generation of academics, Gender Forum launched its first annual Early Career Researchers Issue in October 2013. Now every fall will see a special issue that spotlights the work of emerging scholars.
Contributions for the fifth Early Career Researchers Issue can be new academic writing composed specifically for the occasion or exceptional, previously unpublished term papers on all topics pertaining to Gender Studies, Feminist Studies, Masculinity Studies, and/or Queer Theory.

Prospero, A JOURNAL OF MODERN LITERATURES AND CULTURES (Rivista di Letterature e culture straniere), University of Trieste, Italy, invites contributions for the forthcoming miscellaneous issue, volume 22 (2017). Prospero is a double-blind peer review, printed and entirely open access. It publishes articles and essays in the field of literary studies which consider texts and textual analysis from a wide hermeneutic, philological and historical perspective. It specifically focuses on literary studies considered in their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary relationships with other cultural expressions.
The Subculture Area of the MPCA/MACA requests 150-250 word proposals for papers to be presented at the 2017 Midwest Popular Culture Association Conference. Proposals for co-authored papers, complete panels (3-4 presenters), or nontraditional formats such as workshops, roundtables, open forums, and/or visual/artistic/creative approaches are also welcomed. All proposals must be submitted by April 30, 2017 via online submission: http://submissions.mpcaaca.org.

We are pleased to announce the 7th annual Late Summer Lecture Series CFP. We invite postgraduates and early career researchers to submit abstracts for consideration. The Series gives researchers an opportunity to present their work as an accessible public lecture - open to academic and non-academic audiences alike.
This year’s theme is Change and proposals are welcomed on any focus relating to this topic. We invite proposals from any area of literature including those with an interdisciplinary approach. The latest research indicates that more than 400 million people embark annually on traditional pilgrimages in Saudi Arabia, India, Japan, and elsewhere, with the numbers steadily increasing. Pilgrimage is one of the most ancient practices of humankind and is associated with a great variety of religious and spiritual traditions, beliefs and sacred geographies. These include the small-scale ‘walkabout’ of Outback Australian Aborigines in search of their own and their country’s spiritual renewal, the Sufi journey to the Mausoleum of Sidi Shaykh in the Algerian West Sahara, or to Lourdes in France, which welcomes over five million Catholic pilgrims each year in search of healing or deliverance.
The past, the present and the future are united by tensions. Tensions between them; their ideologies, landscapes and temporal climates, and tensions they share; questions of identity, art and social responsibility. Every generation faces political binaries as we struggle to reconcile a world fraught with difference. Not only are our understandings of race, gender and nation constantly shifting in relation to new discoveries and ideas, but the ways in which we communicate these ideas are in dialogue.
Borges once cheekily wrote, “Writing long books is a laborious and impoverishing act of foolishness…A better procedure is to pretend that those books already exist and to offer …a commentary.” Indeed authors as varied as Borges, Lovecraft, Dick, Apollinaire, Lew, and Asimov placed completely fictional books at the center of their own literary universes. That would make a fascinating subject for an anthology, but that is not this anthology. Rather, what this collection seeks are academic-style works of literary theory and criticism which take as their primary texts completely fictional novels, stories, movements, authors, and films.
Are you interested in writing an article or essay about any aspect of the reception of Greek and Roman antiquity in children’s literature, sharing your ideas, learning about other people’s work, and giving and receiving suggestions as you write?
Members of the Pegasus working group will exchange ideas and drafts electronically between June 2017 and April 2018, and each participant’s piece will ultimately be posted and archived on the Pegasus website (pegasus-reception.com).
