Rebecca Harding Davis at ALA 2018
The Society for the Study of Rebecca Harding Davis and Her World welcomes proposals for two sessions at the next meeting of the American Literature Association. The conference will be held May 24-27, 2018 in San Francisco, CA.
1. Teaching Rebecca Harding Davis and Her World: In this panel, we hope to begin a conversation about how we make Rebecca Harding Davis’s works meaningful and significant in our classrooms. We welcome proposals on any pedagogical aspect of Davis’s works, and we encourage proposals on both her anthologized “Life in the Iron-Mills” as well as her lesser known works. In addition, we encourage proposals that explore topics or authors surrounding Davis’s work, so long as those proposals clearly relate to Davis in some way. We’re interested in topics ranging from personal narratives about teaching Davis to techniques that have worked well in a classroom to theoretically-informed analyses of teaching 19th century women authors.
2. Open Topic Session: We welcome proposals that engage any aspect of Davis’s work and are especially interested in new reading of neglected texts.
Presenters must be members of the Society for the Study of Rebecca Harding Davis and Her World. For information about joining the society, please visit our website at http://scotus.francis.edu/rebeccahardingdavis/
