The Shifting Landscape of Crime on the German Small Screen

updated:
Thursday, January 11, 2018 - 9:17am
German Studies Association Annual Conference
deadline for submissions:
Monday, February 5, 2018

We are soliciting abstracts for a panel at the German Studies Association Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA September 27-30, 2018.

Traditionally the small screen has portrayed danger and crime in the context of the metropolitan, but shows like Weinberg, Dark, Tatort, Polizeiruf 110, among others have increasingly shifted the focus to suburbs, small-towns, and countryside infringing on the tranquility of these supposedly safe spaces. These shows expose the deviance and intrigue of non-metropolitan locales. Does this conflict move from the city and into the small-town or have these towns always maintained an undercurrent of menace, of which we are just now aware?
