This workshop welcomes submissions addressing alternative ways to think about knowledge production in the humanities. Participants will explore how racial and gendered positionalities expose the margins of traditional academic discourse and discuss the potential of community-based and collaborative research in the humanities.
Proposals addressing the intersection of academic research and social-political activism, marginalised forms of knowledge production, and the politics of research are especially welcome.

Resurgens Theatre Company, along with the Georgia State University Department of English, is pleased to announce our second biennial conference on early modern verse drama by Shakespeare’s contemporaries, “Death and Domesticity.” We’re calling for papers that examine some aspect of Renaissance era domestic tragedies, but we also welcome topics involving the influence of murder plays on performance and/or early modern print culture. The conference will be held at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse (499 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308) on September 28 and 29, 2018.

Once considered a fringe movement, neoliberalism has steadily become a central tenet of American life. Neoliberal thought subsequently spread across the globe in a variety of forms (via channels including Hollywood and regulatory bodies such as the International Monetary Fund). Promises of privatization today trump collective action in virtually every aspect of life. This epistemic shift can be felt far and wide, from politicians to postmodern theorists. This panel will investigate symptoms of – and responses to – this shift in the areas of literature and media studies. As is often the case in the examination of the mainstream literary cannon, works incorporating “traditional” magic, Afro-diasporic voodoo and Santeria, and other mystical cosmologies are frequently dismissed as non-literature in an increasingly secular and data-driven world. But by violating the laws of empirical reality, magical narratives challenge the preferred Western emphasis on science to make room for cultural, religious, and social practices inexplicable in scientific terms.

The SFSU Comparative Literature Student Association (CLSA) is accepting submissions for the Spring 2018 edition of the literary journal Portals.
In addition to papers looking across linguistic borders, we invite submissions from those engaging critically with literary topics from an interdisciplinary or comparative perspective. This includes:
Papers comparing at least two authors or texts (print/media)
Interdisciplinary research within the arts (philosophy, cinema studies, etc.) and sciences
