Following milestone moments in Canadian history, namely the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, it has become imperative that all members of the nation should be implicated in processes of conciliation and reconciliation. This turn must include immigrants, migrants, and refugees who diaspored to Canada through colonial networks of their own, and whose presence has been largely overlooked in the “difficult binary” constructed between colonizer and the colonized in both historical and emergent discourses on decolonization. How might these postcolonial subjects enter into artistic or curatorial collaboration with Indigenous peoples of Canada that both acknowledge cultural diversity and their shared colonial beginnings?
I would like to put together an Association of Writers and Writing Programs panel. I am unsure about the topic. The first panel I am putting together this year is for the 10th anniversary of my Anaphora Literary Press, a reading for some of the writers. I would like to put together a second panel with folks that I am not affiliated with, so anybody reading this post. The panel can be a reading, or a discussion on the profession, or a discussion on the writing craft. Maybe a panel of independent publishers to discuss the problems we face in this field. Maybe a panel of academics (I previously taught college English for over 4 years) to talk about teaching creative/writing.
This panel welcomes submissions exploring the logics of disposability and/or sustainability. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: ecological sustainability, theories of excess and expenditure, the materiality of bodies and how they may be said to matter (or not), wasted time and wasted space. We welcome literary or theoretical perspectives from environmental humanities, race studies, psychoanalysis, queer-theory, and necro- or bio-politics. Proposals addressing the conference theme are especially welcome. Acknowledged by several film festivals (Cannes, Indie Lisboa, Locarno, New York) as major Portuguese directors, and by the Harvard Film Archive as creators whose works “reflect the multifarious history of film, from classic genres to experimental film”, both filmmakers have contributed to the growing interest in Portuguese cinema.
