If we can infer anything from the myth of our expulsion from Paradise, it is that we humans are, or ought to be, ashamed of ourselves. Awareness of shame seems inherent to our social existence, and forms one intractable legacy of our self-awareness as a species. As self-conscious animals, we see ourselves in ways most animals do not, and we do not like all that we see.

Proposals for individual presentations are invited for the Comics and Graphic Narratives panel at the 2018 meeting of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA). All papers dealing with comics and other graphic narratives will be considered. Papers utilizing media specific analysis, and papers with a strong connection to this year theme of "Acting, Roles, Stages" are highly encouraged. A visual component to the paper/presentation is also encouraged.

This years conference will be held in Bellingham, Washington and is sponsored by Western Washington University. The conference will be held between Friday, November 9, 2018 and Sunday, November 11, 2018.

In what game designer Eric Zimmerman calls our 'ludic century', the proliferation of games of all sorts makes them a schema for (re)understanding the modes and habits of cultural production. Indeed, the practices of Shakespearean appropriation are frequently products of playful engagements, whereby the appropriator traverses the text, building virtual or imaginary worlds that interact with the received Shakespearean corpus, its margins, and its outliers in creative ways. Moreover, just as play may be likened to appropriation, aspects of Shakespeare games and game development might reflect and/or challenge traditional modes of humanistic inquiry, and adaptive play has the capacity to influence critical reading practices.

You may, should you wish, engage in the conference theme of "Acting, Roles, Stages,” but any topic on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer literature is welcome. However, you might want to explore such issues as acting as art and metaphor, theories of role play and theatricality, conceptions of the world stage and the public audience, and film adaptation, in connection to this session’s topic

This panel examines the role of avant-garde women in confronting models of gender, domesticity and political practices safeguarded by patriarchal society. From the margins of vanguardism women effectively engaged in syndicalist and anarchist movements that reacted to state politics, while urging the importance of launching social reforms and radical art. This panel will thus provide an overview of artists who participated in a variety of experimental trends such as Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism, Imagism, Vorticism, Dadaism and Surrealism, among others.

Correspondences is an international, peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to the academic study of esotericism. The editors acknowledge that the use of this umbrella term for a widely variant field of alternate scientific and religious ideas is problematic. Correspondences therefore maintains an openness toward varying interpretations of the boundaries of the field of esotericism and encourages submissions from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, such as History of Religions, Sociology, Art History, Philosophy, History of Science, Literature, Musicology, and Cultural Studies.
