BFS Journal 19

updated:
Friday, June 1, 2018 - 9:16am
British Fantasy Society
deadline for submissions:
Wednesday, August 1, 2018

The journal is a mix of articles and is keen to accept submissions from people who want to write about fantasy, horror and science fiction. Our focus is primarily the former, but our readers have interests across all three genres.

Academic articles for the BFS Journal should be between 2500 and 6000 words. We prefer nearer the former, as this is about the size of a conference paper. References in the text should be (Author, Date of Edition: Page Number) with a full publication listing for the bibliography given for each article at the end. Please don't use footnotes in your submissions.

All contributors are sent a complimentary copy of the print version and the electronic version.

Panel for SAMLA: Mothering as Resistance: Creating/Subverting Networks of Care as Acts of Resistance

updated:
Friday, June 1, 2018 - 9:15am
SAMLA 90
deadline for submissions:
Friday, June 15, 2018

In summer of 2017, Wonder Woman challenged cultural assumptions of box office superheroes and positioned motherhood as an integral part of a feminist resistance. But motherhood as an act of resistance began long before Wonder Woman’s re-introduction to mainstream pop culture. Motherhood is often used as a rhetorical strategy in anti-violence movements, but motherhood is also used to justify violence as resistance. This panel invites submissions that consider the role of the mother as central to individual, local, national, and global activisms and resistance movements in literature, media portrayals, online communities, grassroot campaigns and more.

Edited Volume on Religious Nationalism in South Asia

updated:

Dr. Avishek Ray
deadline for submissions:
Sunday, July 8, 2018

The importance of religion in contemporary debates ranging from nationalism to its place in the public sphere is exceedingly being felt. Nations -- referred to as imagined communities (c.f. Anderson) -- speak to the profound need for both legitimacy and belonging(ness), often articulated through one’s religious vis-a-vis ethnic identities in the modern world. This volume will explore this issue by focusing on the relationships between religion, geo-politics and the articulation of nationalism in the context of South Asia.
