American cinema has long been preoccupied with depictions of the foreigner, and mainstream films typically stage scenarios where the resolution to eject or assimilate the foreigner is celebrated as a moment of solidarity for Americans. Our panel will explore representations of the foreigner in contemporary American cinema, and we invite contributions that pay specific attention to films that address:

- Images of the foreigner in the immediate aftermath of 9/11
- Foreign terrorists/terrorism during the War in Afghanistan
- American responses to refugee crises around the globe
- The impact of the 2016 election and Donald Trump's presidency

Please include in your proposal: the title of your presentation, 300-400 word abstract, a list of 2-3 potential sources, and an author bio of up to 500 characters. Please email your proposal to Adam Wadenius at by Wednesday, August 15th, 2018.
