Proposals for papers and panels are now being accepted for the 40th annual SWPACA conference.  One of the nation’s largest interdisciplinary academic conferences, SWPACA offers nearly 70 subject areas, each typically featuring multiple panels.  For a full list of subject areas, area descriptions, and Area Chairs, please visit http://southwestpca.org/conference/call-for-papers/

Panels and individual papers on all aspects of Chicana, Chicano, and Chicanx culture are encouraged for our upcoming conference. The Chicana/o/x Literature, Film, and Culture area tends to be both multicultural and interdisciplinary, and panels and individual papers may explore any issues relevant to Chicana/o/x cultural studies.

Presentations might examine themes relevant to Chicana/o/x culture and politics, including but not limited to:

  • Border nationalism
  • Indigenismo
  • Colonialism
  • Marianismo
  • Machismo
  • Gender
  • Spanish
  • Raza
  • Immigration
  • Folklore
  • Corridos
  • Religion
  • Spirituality

  • Separatism
  • Stereotypes
  • Graffiti
  • Television
  • Literature
  • Art

Proposals that address any aspect of Chicana/o/x culture are welcome.

Individual proposals for 15-minute papers must include an abstract of approximately 200-500 words. Including a brief bio in the body of the proposal form is encouraged, but not required.

The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2018.
