In celebration of the life and works of the eminent scholar Pierre Coustillas (1930-2018), we invite contributions for proposed panel(s) on Coustillas, George Gissing, and their writing to the Annual Literary London Society Conference. This meeting will be held on 11-12 July 2019 at the Institute of English Studies in the University of London. Coustillas has had a profound influence on Gissing and nineteenth-century studies. From 1969 to April 2013, he edited The Gissing Newsletter and subsequently The Gissing Journal, the organ for Gissing studies. In 1997, Paul F. Mattheisen, Arthur C. Young, and Coustillas completed their landmark project: The Collected Letters of George Gissing.

The sixth Sharing Cultures conference examines all aspects of Intangible Cultural Heritage within the definitions provided by the 2013 UNESCO Declaration.This iteration of the conference will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 11-14 June 2019. Papers and panels are invited covering the whole gamut of ICH-related topics and there will be a special chapter on Monetising ICH - tourism and business. Proceedings are published. The approach is interdisciplinary and theoretical approaches and discussions, case studies and accounts of on-going projects are welcome. Edinburgh was the first UNESCO City of Literature and its Old and New Towns are UNESCO World Heritage sites. For further details see:

Much attention has been given to recent American studies showing a dramatic increase in the numbers of those who distance themselves from religious affiliation. Here in Quebec, it is approximately 50 years since the Quiet Revolution, a political movement that wrested control over health and education from the Catholic Church to a secular government. Today in Montreal, fewer than 4% of the population regularly attends mass, a trend that echoes the situation in Europe (1).
