University of Idaho Graduate English Conference
I am seeking a couple of additional essays for an edited collection on Gender and Twenty-First Century Television. I am looking in particular for essays that address contemporary television narratives featuring people of color (such as Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Empire, Jane, the Virgin, Vida, Atlanta, etc.) If you are interested, please send a 300-word abstract and brief bio to Amanda Konkle, akonkle@georgiasouthern.edu, by December 14.
This collection is being proposed to an interested peer-reviewed, open access, university-affiliated press.

UC San Diego’s Department of Literature is excited to announce our first annual graduate conference. This year’s theme, “Return, Resistance, Resilience, and Recovery,” embraces the complexities of the prefix “post-” in “post-apocalypse.” We are happy to confirm Dr. Shelley Streeby as our keynote speaker; her work on science fiction, climate change, and activism along with her experience in Literature, Ethnic Studies, and the Critical Gender Studies Program will especially enrich our interdisciplinary discussion!
For the 2019 conference of the International Gothic Association (to be held at Lewis University July 30th– August 2nd: https://igalewis2019.com/), I am organizing a roundtable with 5 to 7 participants to talk about best practices in teaching the Gothic.

The Elizabeth Bowen Society is delighted to announce its second international conference. Recent years have seen a growing and sustained interest in Bowen’s work, which can be read through a wide variety of literary approaches. No longer thought of as a writer on the margins of Bloomsbury, Bowen rightly occupies a central place in our understanding of both the twentieth century and twentieth-century literature.
