This special issue of KronoScope particularly welcomes submissions on current issues in time in the literary, visual and performing arts, including but not limited to:
- Literary, dramatic and artistic representations of time
- Narrative, poetic and linguistic temporalities
- Dramatic representations of time on the stage and screen
- Artistic representations of time across historical periods
- Time in science fiction, dystopias, utopias, and ‘high’ and ‘low’ genres
- Temporal representations in popular culture, video games and comics
- Multimedia and multidisciplinary representations of time
- Imagining time travel and alternative temporalities
- Cross-cultural representations of time
- Experimental artworks and approaches to time
- Ethical engagements with time in the arts
- Literary and artistic engagements with the Anthropocene
- Approaches to teaching time across the arts
This special issue of KronoScope seeks papers that deal with the representation of time from across the arts, including literature, drama, dance, music, theatre, film, television, popular culture, video games, photography, sculpture, painting, architecture, and multidisciplinary art works. Papers should be between 5000-8000 words and written in English.
About the journal
A biannual, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal, KronoScope is the associated journal of the International Society for the Study of Time (ISST), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016. Published by Brill Academic Publishers since 2001, KronoScope is available in both print and online versions, and it is indexed/abstracted in the following (among others): MLA, Scopus, Worldwide Political Science Abstracts, the International Directory of Philosophy, Linguistic and Language Behavior Abstracts.
Submission guidelines
Please submit your essay electronically (a Word document, double-spaced), including a 150-word abstract and up to 6 keywords, via the Brill/KRON website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/KRON by 1 March 2019. At the website, you will be asked to register with your name, email address, and the names and contact details of three potential referees who can offer a fair evaluation of your work. We may or may not draw upon these referees. For the external review process, submissions will be evaluated double-blind, so please strip your article of identifiers of authorship.You are responsible for obtaining any permission to reproduce copyrighted material; black and white pictures may be included. Please begin working on obtaining any permissions right away; the process can be a lengthy one.
Following peer-review, 5-7 papers will be selected for publication in KronoScope 19.2, to appear in Autumn/Fall 2019. The selection criteria will be thematic focus, scholarly depth and originality, as well as accessibility/interest for a multidisciplinary readership of academics involved in the study of time. References and bibliography should be formatted according to The Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition). Either the Notes and Bibliography or Author-Date References style of documentation is acceptable.
